The art of fine dining
Málaga’s Carmen Thyssen Museum invites you to a very special banquet, with flavours inspired by its top paintings
Some works of art can evoke landscapes, others evoke stories, sometimes journeys, and sometimes flavours… but have you ever tried an Art Menu? The Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga offers you a fusion of art and gastronomy, drawn from its permanent collection.
This is a two-fold experience, in which the art works inspire a tasting menu which the visitor can enjoy while they take part in a guided tour of the Museum. Recipes inspired by art works from the collection seen on the tour have been recuperated and interpreted to create the menu. The visit is led by one of the Museum’s experts, who conveys the essence of the paintings selected for this experience with passion, making it possible to see these beautiful works of art with new eyes.
Some of the combinations that visitors will experience include: ‘Vendiendo melones’ [Selling melons] by Joaquín Sorolla, for which a melon soup has been prepared with crispy ibérico cured ham [ibérico denotes high-quality cured ham]. Or ‘Paisaje costero’ [Coastal landscape] by Guillermo Gómez Gil, which has inspired a re-interpretation of the typical Málaga salad, with potatoes, fish, eggs, orange and olives. Or why not take a look at ‘Vendedoras de rosquillas en un rincón de Sevilla’ [Women selling rosquillas in a corner of Seville]? Accompanied by some traditional rosquillas, or small doughnuts…
Other works include ‘Patio’ by Eliseu Meifrén i Roig; ‘Marina’ by Guillermo Gómez Gil; ‘Corridas de toros y picador herido’ [Bullfight with wounded lancer] by Mariano Fortuny, and ‘Desnudo’ [Naked] by Celso Lagar. These are transformed into succulent flaky pastries filled with Mediterranean-style houmous, Málaga-style monkfish soup, oxtail ravioli with pumpkin purée, and chocolate brownies with red berries and white chocolate sauce, respectively.
Discover art through your taste buds in this unique experience.
